Freight Noise Attenuation Program

Current status

We launched the Freight Noise Attenuation Program (FNAP) in late 2015 as part of a suite of initiatives to minimise the impact of freight rail noise on NSW residents.

The program started treating houses in 2016 and aims to treat 200 homes per year over the next 10 years.

The FNAP offers noise reduction treatments to homes affected by high levels of freight rail noise along NSW Government managed rail corridors between Nowra and Newcastle, and west to Lithgow – see the FNAP rail corridor map

We are installing noise-reducing treatments in eligible homes and buildings. These treatments include upgraded windows, solid external doors and enhanced ventilation.

Read the FNAP program overview and FNAP policy.

Eligibility requirements

We are currently prioritising homes located in areas that experience the highest levels of average night noise and maximum night time noise events.
